AMS Continues Transition to New Data Source to Improve Market News Reporting Accuracy

Date
January 04, 2021

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is continuing its transition to the Department of Homeland Security Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) International Trade Data System (ITDS) for commodity movement reporting. The data was available to the public beginning Jan. 4, 2021.

In January 2020, AMS transitioned to the ACE as its data source for northern border crossings of imported specialty crops. Beginning in January 2021, all other ports and points of entry except for Nogales, Arizona, will follow suit. In addition, all imports will be reported daily instead of weekly.

AMS Specialty Crops Market News reports provide data on market prices and movement; including domestic shipments, imports and crossings from Mexico and Canada. The ACE system replaces the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Agricultural Quarantine Activity System PPQ280 data source for border crossings, which was previously used by Market News. ACE data will become the primary source on all Specialty Crops Market News movement reports, except for Nogales, Arizona.

Market News reports and data are available on the AMS Specialty Crops Market News Portal.
