The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) issued a final rule to amend the Beef Promotion and Research Order under the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985.
The amendments will add six Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for imported veal and veal products, and update assessment levels for imported veal and veal products based on revised determinations of live animal equivalencies.
The HTS codes and categories are used by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to assist AMS in the collection of assessments on imported cattle, beef, and beef products, including veal.
In addition, AMS is amending the Order’s definition of “Imported beef or beef products” at 7 CFR 1260.121 by deleting its reference to tariff numbers that are no longer in use and obsolete.
The final rule will be published in the May 30, 2017, Federal Register.
