The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees for the National Honey Board to succeed seven members whose terms expire Dec. 31, 2020, and one whose term expires Dec. 31, 2021. The deadline to submit nominations is June 1, 2020.
The National Honey Board is composed of 10 industry members. Each member has an alternate. The board is seeking one first handler, one importer, one producer and their alternates to serve three-year terms. In addition, the board is seeking one first handler alternate to serve a one-year term. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will select individuals from the nominations submitted.
Only qualified national organizations within the honey industry may nominate members. All nominees must meet the qualifications and submit an application. Producer members or alternates must produce a minimum of 50,000 pounds of honey in the U.S. annually based on the best three-year average of the most recent five calendar years.

Since 1966, Congress has authorized industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. AMS provides oversight to 21 boards. The oversight ensures fiscal accountability and program integrity, and is paid for by industry assessments.
