The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe’s Food Distribution program’s mission is to provide food for the members of our three communities on the reservation, including Wadsworth, Nixon, and Sutcliffe, and neighboring off-reservation communities. If funded by the LFPA Plus program, the grant activities will include procuring, shipping, and delivery of local fresh and frozen food and produce in the region to our Food Distribution warehouse. Project deliverables include contracts with local food and produce vendors within a 400-mile radius and distribution of these foods and produce to underserved communities. Expected outcomes include increased availability of fresh produce for low-income tribal members and surrounding communities, increased amount of fresh local produce community members incorporate into their family diet, improvement in nutrition-related health challenges for tribal members, and increased the percentage of tribal members’ food that is produced locally. The intended beneficiaries are primarily the residents of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation and the surrounding communities of Fernley, Lovelock, Fallon, Silver Springs, and Schurz. With the funding, the Food Distribution Program anticipates serving over 3,500 individuals annually. These numbers are from three reservation communities and six rural communities that surround us.
