The Chickasaw Nation (CN) Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides fruit and vegetable benefits to eligible First Americans during the summer months. The Winter Fruit and Vegetable Benefit Program (WFVB) for Chickasaw seniors was created to compliment SFMNP and to support the year-round nutritional needs of Chickasaw seniors by providing fresh, frozen, and canned fruits and vegetables during the winter months: November, December, January, February, and March. Chickasaw seniors, 55 and older, Chickasaw Warrior Society members (Veterans), and 100 percent disabled Chickasaw citizens are eligible to receive this benefit. With Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) grant funds, the CN has expanded the CN WFVB food package to include local producers. Our first season is full of seeking collaboration and making connections across the state of Oklahoma. The CN will work with local collaborators and offer Chickasaw participants locally purchased items in their winter packages, expanding markets for our local vendors. The work plan will remain the same each year. The CN is requesting the additional funds to use during the one additional year for service for a combination of three years.
