The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Warehouse and Commodity Management Division (WCMD) published the United States Warehouse Act (USWA) Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Report, detailing operations, financial information, efficiencies and cost savings. A copy of the report is available at https://www.ams.usda.gov/reports/united-states-warehouse-act-annual-reports.
The USWA, enacted in 1916 to stabilize and standardize the agricultural commodity warehouse system, provides for voluntary licensing of public warehouses to meet state or other industry requirements. In addition, the USWA authorizes examination of these facilities, as well as collection of fees to fund operations. This annual report is required by the USWA, as amended in 2000.
This year, WCMD focused on refining our new modernized IT systems while expanding the USWA footprint. This involved implementing new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness, such as leveraging new communication tools to improve stakeholder communications and information sharing methods.
AMS continues to work closely with licensees, stakeholders and other industry partners to innovate, adapt and provide effective and efficient services to the commodity warehouse sector.
