The Chickasaw Nation (CN) Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides fruit and vegetable benefits to eligible First Americans during the summer months. The Winter Fruit and Vegetable Benefit Program (WFVB) for Chickasaw seniors was created to compliment SFMNP and to support the year-round nutritional needs of Chickasaw seniors by providing fresh, frozen and canned fruits and vegetables during the winter months: November, December, January, February and March. Chickasaw seniors, 55 and older, Chickasaw Warrior Society members (Veterans) and 100 percent disabled Chickasaw citizens are eligible to receive this benefit. With Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) grant funds, the CN will expand the CN WFVB food package to include locally grown fruits and vegetables produced by First American and other socially disadvantaged farmers/ranchers and will expand the diet quality of its Chickasaw seniors by including locally sourced protein and dairy items in the winter food package. The CN is a sovereign tribal government and is fully equipped to provide high quality services within the CN’s treaty territory in order to improve the quality of life of its tribal citizens.
