The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Buffalo Authority Corporation will partner with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Veterans Food Pantry to purchase and distribute local foods from our local socially disadvantaged producers. These foods will be distributed to the 25 underserved communities and rural residents on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservations which includes some of the poorest and most forgotten people in the United States. The Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is comprised of about 2.8 million acres or about the size of the State of Connecticut and is located in North Central South Dakota. We are extremely remote, about 120 miles from the nearest Interstate Highway and 90 miles from the nearest Walmart. Through this program we will connect our approximately 12,000 underserved citizens with some of the best farmers and ranchers in the world, located within the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, for the benefit of creating a sustainable food supply chain and contributing to the betterment of their nutritional needs. This program will also create new market opportunities through our established food distribution programs for our local producers, who are primarily categorized as socially disadvantaged and historically underserved.
