The Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS) will contract with 14 Community Partnerships in Missouri to administer the LFPA and LFPA+ grants. The Partnerships administer or provide a multitude of community programs, such as homeless shelters, employment and training programs for low-income persons, mentoring programs, parenting programs, adolescent programs, elderly and disabled resources, and others.
LFPA plus will allow for the purchase of additional food from producers. For both grants, the Partnerships continue to develop stakeholder groups that include farmers, producers, aggregators, and distributors. In addition, universities, DSS staff, healthcare representatives, and local non-profits are involved in conversations regarding the necessity of quality food.
The Community Partnerships will obtain food through direct agreements with local farmers, and agreements with distributors in Missouri that are able to combine products from smaller sources to increase the variety of available foods. This will make available a variety of products that will include protein, dairy, and produce boxes, meal kits, and other locally grown products.
Missouri will use the additional funds to increase the amount of food available at the 250 expected distribution sites. It is expected that these efforts will reach approximately 300,000 citizens. This is expected to be accomplished through a combination of use of traditional brick and mortar locations, and Mobile distribution in order to reach more remote communities that are in need.
Since the LFPA+ grant only allows for direct costs, all sub recipient indirect costs are in the LFPA grant.
