Applications will be accepted for seasonal Agricultural Commodity Graders (Classer Trainee, GS-1980-05), $18.06 P.H. beginning August 14. Application forms OF-612 and OF-306 can be obtained from the address above or you can request a copy by email from FlorenceCO@usda.gov. Selected individuals will be trained in the classification of cotton and must pass the Cotton & Tobacco Program Classer Examination. Selected personnel passing the training course will be employed as seasonal Agricultural Commodity Graders for approximately 12 - 16 weeks during the cotton harvesting season.
Minimum qualifications are high school diploma or GED and six months experience in managing, growing, marketing, or grading cotton OR six months experience grading other agricultural products for the state or federal government; as a computer operator, bank teller, bookkeeper, tax clerk or secretary; OR in a trade requiring special training or license; OR successful completion of Vo-Tech training, OR 520 hours of Cotton Program employment with fully successful in all elements. Proof of special training or license required.
Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and be prepared to show picture ID, high school diploma and/or GED and Social Security Card. Veteran’s preference will be applied as appropriate. DD-214 “member 4 copy” must be provided to qualify for veteran’s preference. If you are a male born after Dec. 31, 1959 and are at least 18 years of age, civil service employment law (5 U.S.C.3328) requires that you must be registered with the Selective Service System, unless you meet certain exemptions (proof of registration and/ or exemption required). Weekend and holiday work are mandatory. Additional rating points will be given for education and/or work experience. Transcript is required with application. Background checks will be made on all applicants selected.
