WASHINGTON, March 30, 2017 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee will host a public meeting May 9-10, 2017, in the Potomac Meeting Room of the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va. The committee will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 9, and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 10. The meeting is open to the public. USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is coordinating the meeting.
USDA established the committee in 2001 to examine the full spectrum of issues facing the fruit and vegetable industry and to provide suggestions and ideas to the department on ways to improve programs to meet the changing needs of the produce industry. Committee members represent a broad cross-section of the industry.
At the meeting, committee members will review progress made on topics ranging from produce safety to fruit and vegetable consumption. Committee working groups may also provide additional recommendations to the full committee for discussion and submission to the department as formal recommendations. Details about the meeting are in the March 23 Federal Register.
Members of the public who wish to submit comments related to the fruit and vegetable industry or wish to arrange for special accommodations should contact Acting Designated Federal Officer Marlene Betts at (202) 720-5057 or e-mail marlene.betts@ams.usda.gov. Comments must be submitted by April 14, 2017.
The Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel is located at 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Va. 22202.
