Summary
This rule implements a recommendation from the Kiwifruit Administrative Committee (Committee) to increase the assessment rate established for the 2022–23 and subsequent fiscal periods. The assessment rate will remain in effect indefinitely unless modified, suspended, or terminated.

How do I apply for the USDA Local MCap?
Eligible applicants for Local MCap grants include business entities (regardless of legal structure) engaged in meat and poultry processing, including rendering animal carcasses or byproducts. Eligible entities include Tribes and Tribal Entities, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, and State or local government entities. Private entities must be independently owned and operated, and all applicants must be domestically owned.

USDA Announces Dates for Oregon and Washington Pears Continuance Referendum
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will conduct a referendum May 8-30, 2023, for pear growers to vote on whether to continue their federal marketing order. Growers who produced pears in Oregon and Washington between July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022, are eligible to vote.
USDA Reduces Barriers, Increases Opportunities for More Vendors to Participate in USDA Commodity Procurement Food Purchase Programs, Aligns Transportation Requirements with Industry Practices
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that beginning July 1, 2023, suppliers of food purchase programs administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will no longer be required to use high security seals on trucks, railcars, vessels and other transports when transporting food products purchased to support those programs but will be allowed to use traceable, tamper evident, flat metal, wire or plastic commercial security seals.
