WASHINGTON, April 2, 2021 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a complaint against Trampas Jordan (Jordan) of Buffalo, Texas, on March 2, 2021, for alleged violations of the Packers and Stockyards (P&S) Act.
An investigation by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) revealed that Jordan willfully violated sections of the Packers and Stockyards Act and regulations by engaging in the business of a market agency buying livestock on a commission basis without registering with the Secretary of Agriculture.
The investigation revealed that during the period from Dec. 7, 2019, through Jan. 25, 2020, Jordan purchased a total of 292 head of livestock in 19 transactions for a total purchase price of $182,697. In each of these transactions, Jordan engaged in the business of a market agency buying livestock on a commission basis without being registered with the Secretary and maintaining an adequate bond or bond equivalent.
The P&S Act requires subject entities to register with the Secretary and maintain an adequate bond or bond equivalent. Failure to register with the Secretary and maintain an adequate bond or bond equivalent are unfair trade practices and violations of the P&S Act.
The P&S Act is a fair trade practice and payment protection law that promotes fair and competitive marketing environments for the livestock, meat, and poultry industries.
